Why lifting and conveying equipment must be inspected
Lifting and conveying equipment works with heavy loads above workers’ heads or in busy areas. A worn wire rope, weak brakes, or a cracked frame can drop a load or tip the machine over. Inspection and testing checks every critical part and tests the equipment under load, proving its safe capacity.
What we inspect
Cranes
Overhead cranes, gantry cranes, mobile cranes, tower cranes, and similar.
Jacks and hoists
Jacks, chain blocks, hoists, and workpiece positioners.
Personnel platforms
Gondolas and other equipment that lifts people.
Heavy equipment
Forklifts, excavators, loaders, and other heavy equipment.
Personnel baskets
Manlifts and boom lifts for work at height.
Trucks, rail cars, and conveyors
Trucks with lifting attachments, rail or cable cars, transport robots, and conveyors.
The risks of neglecting it
Dropped loads
Worn wire ropes, chains, or hooks can snap while lifting.
Tip-overs
Equipment that is overloaded or has weak brakes can tip over.
Serious injury
Lifting accidents often cause serious injury or death.
Stopped by inspectors
Equipment without a valid certificate can be prohibited from use by labor inspectors, bringing work to a halt.

| Periodic | Regularly after the first inspection, at the intervals in Regulation 8/2020. |
| Special | After an accident or damage. |
| Repeat | When the results of a previous inspection are in doubt. |

Frequently asked questions
Do forklifts need to be inspected?
Yes. Forklifts are heavy equipment within the conveying equipment group under Regulation 8/2020.
What is a load test?
The equipment lifts a set test load to prove that it, its brakes, and its structure are safe at rated capacity.
Do operators need a licence too?
Yes. Operators of lifting and conveying equipment need an OHS licence for their equipment type, and their details are checked during inspection.
Send us a list of your lifting and conveying equipment with nameplate photos through the quote form. Our team will prepare the schedule and load test requirements.
