Power and Production Machinery Inspection

Inspection and testing of generators, prime movers, production machines, and furnaces so they are safe for operators.

Why power and production machinery must be inspected

Machines with rotating parts, high pressure, or high heat can trap, cut, or burn operators when guards and safety devices fail. Inspection and testing confirms that foundations, guards, safety devices, and installations are fit, so the machines are safe to use every day.

What we inspect

Prime movers

Combustion engines, generators, turbines, and other prime movers.

Machine tools and production machines

Lathes, milling machines, presses, grinders, processing machines, and other production machines.

Mechanical power transmission

Shafts, belts, chains, gears, and couplings that transmit power.

Furnaces

Kilns and furnaces for industrial processes.

The risks of neglecting it

Trapping and cutting

Unguarded rotating parts can catch an operator’s hands or clothing.

Fire and burns

Furnaces and hot machinery can cause fires and burns.

Early failure

Loose foundations and bolts cause excessive vibration and wear machines out faster.

Stopped by inspectors

Equipment without a valid certificate can be prohibited from use by labor inspectors, bringing work to a halt.

Inspection and testing schedule

TypeWhen it is done
FirstBefore the machine is used, and after it is installed, moved, or modified.
PeriodicRegularly, at the intervals set by regulation.
SpecialAfter an accident or major damage.
RepeatWhen the results of a previous inspection are in doubt.

Documents to prepare

  • Technical data, manuals, and drawings from the manufacturer.
  • Machine nameplate photo: brand, type, power, and serial number.
  • Previous certificate and inspection report (periodic inspection).
  • Maintenance and repair records.

Site preparation

  • The machine can be run during testing.
  • A technician or operator accompanies the inspection.
  • Access to the foundation, guards, and control panel.

Legal basis

  • Law No. 1 of 1970 on Work Safety requires safety conditions for equipment and installations at the workplace.
  • Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 38 of 2016 on OHS for Power and Production Machinery.
  • Inspections are carried out by an OHS Expert in the relevant field appointed by the Minister.

Frequently asked questions

Is a generator set considered power and production machinery?

Yes. A generator is driven by a combustion engine, which is a prime mover. Its electrical installation can be checked at the same time through electrical installation inspection.

Which machines need to be inspected?

Prime movers, machine tools and production machines, power transmissions, and furnaces. Send us your machine list and we will help sort it.

Do machines have to stop for long?

No. Inspection is done while the machine is briefly shut down and while it runs for testing, scheduled around your production.

Send us your machine list with nameplate photos through the quote form. Our team will prepare a schedule that does not disrupt production.
